Alexei Navalny has been released from the hospital after an attempted poisoning, but his problems are not yet over. Russian officials have now seized Navalny’s assets–including his bank accounts and his Moscow apartment. The reason, apparently, is because Navalny has been successfully sued for libel.
After publishing a video that exposed Putin crony Yevgeny Prigozhin, whose catering company was linked to an outbreak of food poisoning in Moscow schools:
Mr Prigozhin sued Mr Navalny for defamation and was awarded compensation totalling more than $1m. An ordinary flat in the southern outskirts of Moscow owned by Mr Navalny is not worth anything near that much.BBC News
Navalny and his supporters claim that he has been targeted with lawsuits and police raids in retaliation for exposing corruption. Navalny claims that Putin is responsible for poisoning him.
