When Trump says that mail-in votes will rig the election, he is lying. When Trump claims that mail-in ballots are bad, but absentee ballots are good, he is lying. The fact is that absentee ballots and mail in ballots are THE EXACT SAME THING. Trump lies often, but this time he is lying because he doesn’t want you to vote. That is vote suppression, and it is both illegal and morally wrong.
Recently, Trump Tweeted that absentee ballots were safe, but that mail-in ballots will rig the election. Who is he trying to kid? They are the same thing. Don’t let Trump Trump trick you.
Every state allows Americans to vote by mail provided they meet certain conditions. In fact, most states allow mail-in voting without the requirement of any special reason and it has been this way for a very long time. Many states want everyone to vote by mail. Don’t get tricked into thinking this is something new.
Mail balloting is not a newfangled idea; it was already deeply embedded in the American electoral system before the coronavirus hit. In the last two federal elections, roughly one out of every four Americans cast a mail ballot. In five states — Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon, Utah, and Washington — mail balloting has been the primary method of voting. In 28 additional states, all voters have had the right to vote by mail ballot if they choose, without having to provide any reason or excuse. Over time, a growing number of voters have chosen that option. Since 2000 more than 250 million votes have been cast via mailed-out ballots, in all 50 states, according to the Vote at Home Institute. In 2018, more than 31 million Americans cast their ballots by mail, about 25.8 percent of election participants.Brennan Center
Various states that normally require an excuse are allowing voters to use fear of catching Covid-19 as an excuse to be eligible to vote by mail. For example, due to the declared State of Emergency in Alabama and the Covid-19 pandemic, all Alabama voters are eligible to receive a mail-in ballot for the November 3rd General Election.
This election, six states have changed their rules to allow for anyone to be eligible to cast an absentee ballot by mail due to the Covid-19 pandemic. These six states are : Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Louisiana, New Hampshire, and Mississippi where vulnerable people that might get extremely ill from catching Covid-19 may request a mail-in ballot.
What should really annoy Americans is that Trump is telling the citizens of some states that their mail-in ballot system is safe, while claiming that it is fraudulent in other states.
Trump needs Florida’s 29 electoral votes to gain re-election in November. Critics say this is why he is encouraging mail-in voting there. Trump knows that Florida’s large retirement population are likely to vote by mail if given the opportunity. Meanwhile, Trump is suing Nevada to stop that state from expanding mail-in voting.
Why is Trump picking on Nevada? It might have something to do with the fact that Biden currently has a 6.4 lead in Nevada, and Trump is likely to lose there. Trump believes it will be difficult for people to get to the polls to vote for Biden if they have to show up in person.
Fraud is not the concern that Trump claims:
vote-by-mail have encountered essentially zero fraud: Oregon, the pioneer in this area, has sent out more than 100 million mail-in ballots since 2000, and has documented only about a dozen cases of proven fraud.” That’s 0.00001 percent of all votes cast.*** An exhaustive investigative journalism analysis of all known voter fraud cases identified only 491 cases of absentee ballot fraud from 2000 to 2012.Brennan Centre
Don’t let Trump suppress your vote. Get registered, request a mail-in ballot, and mail it as soon as possible.
Trump is worried that dogs will vote for Biden, and he is probably right.
