Don’t forget about that Russian bounty

Don’t forget about that Russian bounty

Trump hopes you forget that he did nothing after hearing that Russia put a bounty on U.S. soldiers. Don’t let him do that. The American military are real people. They have families, lives worth living, and they work hard to protect America’s interests. They deserve more than to be treated as cannon fodder.

If there is anything that Trump is good at, it is refreshing the news cycle. Whatever Trump did yesterday seems like years ago, and what he did today will be forgotten later tonight when Trump does or says some fresh and outlandish thing.

Do you think that Trump wore a mask to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center because he was trying to change the topic? Maybe? Probably.

“I’ll probably have a mask if you must know. I’ll probably have a mask. I think when you’re in a hospital especially in that particular setting, where you are talking to a lot of soldiers, people that in some cases just got off the operating table. I think it’s a great thing to wear a mask. I’ve never been against masks but I do believe they have a time and a place,” Trump told reporters ahead of his visit.

CNN

Trump and his Administration made sure that news of his mask wearing was broadcast far and wide. As hoped for, the media picked the story up. This story is a false narrative that Trump is interested in protecting injured veterans. If Trump cared, he would not have made deep cuts to VA services.

Trump’s inability to even PRETEND to protect U.S. military personnel is outrageous in itself, but this particular story involving Russian bounties is an impeachable offence, to say the least. It might be more accurately described as treason.

Claiming that the POTUS had not been briefed about the Russian bounties is inexcusable. Why wasn’t he briefed? Why wouldn’t he be briefed? Where does the buck stop?

The buck always stops with the POTUS. ALWAYS. It doesn’t matter if it is a mitigating the effects of a global pandemic or keeping the military safe. That is the job description for POTUS.

The fact is that we now know that Trump was briefed. He just was not interested. The people that are responsible for briefing the POTUS about foreign threats to America’s military claim that Trump NEVER wanted to hear anything negative about Russia.

There are two possible scenarios going on here.

The first scenario is that everyone around Trump knows that he is incompetent and they are no longer bothering to include him in the day to day governance of the nation. Trump might be so incompetent that briefing him may be considered a security risk. That is REALLY bad if that is the case, but it would explain why Trump knows nothing about everything.

The second scenario is that Trump and his administration are so incompetent that the U.S. is currently unable to protect itself from enemy threats. Just the idea is terrifying.

Occasionally, Republican lawmakers are noticing, but they seem to be shouting their concerns into the void.

“Russia paying bounties for the murders of American service members would be an unacceptable escalation,” said Rep. Michael McCaul of Austin, the top Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee. “If true, the administration … must take swift and serious action to hold the Putin regime accountable. And that should include not inviting Russia to rejoin the G7.”

The Dallas Morning News

So why has Trump done nothing? Trump has not even made a pretense of criticizing Russia or Putin. All he does is shrug and claim he didn’t know, and that now he does know, that it was fake news.

Disturbing.
