Belgian scientists keep llama in secret location

Winter the Llama has been participating in research to combat MERS, SARS, and now Covid-19. The 5 year old llama has helped researchers to identify a particle that is able to block coronaviruses. Apparently, llamas produce small antibodies called nanobodies that can be nebulized through an inhaler. These nanobodies have the ability to bind to the protein spikes of a coronavirus and thus block the virus from spreading within the body. Although a lot more work must be done, researchers are hopeful about the potential for using llama nanobodies as a treatment for Covid-19.

In the meantime, Winter the Llama is being kept in a secret location to ensure her safety. There has been no word on whether Winter the Llama has freely consented to participate in this research study.
